Dr. ZAFARUL-ISLAM KHAN Zafarul Islam Khan was born in 1948, studied in India, Egypt and UK. He got doctorate from Manchester University in Islamic Studies. He worked as translator-editor with the Libyan Foreign Ministry during 1973-79. He was senior research fellow asAssociate Professor at The Muslim Institute, London, during 1979-92. He is director of the Institute of Islamic & Arab Studies, New Delhi and editor of Muslim & Arab Perspectives since 1993 and of the Indian Muslims’ leading English publication The Milli Gazette since January 2000. He is author and translator of over 40 books in Arabic, English and Urdu.. He has contributed eight articles to the Encyclopaedia of Islam (Leiden) on Indo-Muslim themes. Considered as an expert of Middle Eastern issues in general and the Palestinian issue in particular, Dr. Khan is currently on a project of re-editing the popular English translation and commentary of the Holy Quran byAbdullah Yusuf Ali to be completed in two to three years time. Dr Khan has organised as well as attended dozens of conferences and seminars in India and abroad. He is a trustee of the Beirut-basedAl-Quds Foundation, Qatar-basedEetelaf Al-KhairandInternational Association ofMuslim Scholars (Qatar). He is also a member of two international bodies, theHigher Committee for Coordinationamong Muslim OrganisationsandConference of Islamic Scholars. He is also chairman of theCharityAlliance, charitable work in Murshidabad (West Bengal). He frequently appears as a commentator on Islamic and South Asian issues on radio and TV channels including Aljazeera and BBC Arabic Radio & TV channels and occasionally writes for some Arabic newspapers andmagazines. Dr. Zafarul Islam Khan has been elected as President of the All India Muslim Majlis-e Mushawarat(AIMMM), the umbrella body of Indian Muslim organizations in December 2011 for the term 2012-2013
