Dr bob has been giving some thought over the last couple of days to the term non cash aid cos in the wake of super hurricane Yolanda there has been a lot of cash donated from around the world but also a lot of non cash aid pledges too! Cash aid is simple, it is the big pallets of rice that the Americans unloaded from their aircraft carrier George Washington and the helicopter airlifts to get the food and water to where it needs to be! Cash Aid is not bundles of money cos poor folk there cant just go down to the JCB distributor in Cebu and buy a couple of back hoes cos there isnt a JCB distributor there, no, we have to buy them here and send them over in a big plane, that is cash aid but non cash aid pledges sound deeply suspicious to me cos Phillipines has oil fields around their islands waiting to be exploited and that must be very attractive to our old friends Russia and China who are past masters at the art of stealing other countries mineral deposits and oil! As indeed we are if you go back in time! Sooooo, I remain very suspicious about non cash Aid, especially as China gas pledged so much of it! Maybe Im becoming cynical, maybe Im right? Maybe someone can put me straight here?
