Dr.m, Proton have wasted their prime time with your best friend tengku mahaleel. During 2000-2010, proton only produced niche market car like the Gen2 (one platform), satria neo (another platform) , savvy (another platform). All of them are plagued by power window, fittings and reliability issue. It was datuk Syed zainal that rescued proton reputation and operation with the persona, exora, saga, preve and iriz (development started 5 years ago). The world is an open market with rules played by every country to protect their own market. I am not surprised to see malaysia to have such protection for proton which is deemed as a norm. Even if all malaysian buys proton, it still wont make it justifiable through cost to volume. It is only viable if it has the long term development for a bigger market. Now Koreans have picked up, sooner china made cars too. There is no protectionism or quota benefit for anyone.
