Drawing (Fall 2013) Dear Parents/Guardians: Sometime this - TopicsExpress

Drawing (Fall 2013) Dear Parents/Guardians: Sometime this weekend or at the beginning of the week, I will update grades in Infinite Campus. I will try to update grades once a week so you can check on your child’s progress. If you notice a zero, that more than likely means your child has not yet turned in an assignment. There will be occasions when a student turns in an assignment late, and it may be a few days before I update the change in Infinite Campus. If you ever want to know if your child has turned in a late assignment, just contact me by phone or e-mail. Please remember that students lose 10 points a school day for each day an out-of-class sketch is not turned in (barring excused absences or IEP modifications). Occasionally in-class work (like the upside down drawing) not completed during class may become homework, but no points are lost if these assignments are turned in late. Upcoming assignments are listed at the bottom of this e-mail. As I stated in my previous e-mail, I encourage you to ask your child to bring their sketches home so you can see them, make sure they are completed, and check their progress. If your child has taken Art I or is currently taking Art I-A, you may notice similar if not identical assignments. In Art I, we teach drawing concepts at the very beginning of the semester. In a drawing class, we do the same. I do not expect students to come into either class with top notch drawing skills (though occasionally that may happen). After the third or fourth full week of the trimester, you will see a change in direction with the assignments. I hope this explains clearly why some overlapping may occur. This week’s out-of-class sketch is a free choice, 30 minute drawing that communicates an emotion without words. Your children can pick the subject matter and medium to communicate the theme. They need to make sure they have spent 30 minutes on developing the drawing to the best of their ability and that it can convey the emotional theme to the average viewer. This week we are working on blind and modified contour drawing. The students will also be learning about the principles of design. They will have a quiz either at the end of this week or the beginning of next week. Please encourage your children to study their notes every night next week in preparation for the quiz. Next week we will also work on negative space drawing. Our DCHS Open House this trimester will be on Thursday evening, August 29.th I hope you will be able to come because I would love to meet you. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. I hope this will help ensure your child’s success in Drawing and at Daviess County High School. Sincerely, Mr. Norris Visual Arts Department Daviess County High School Beginning Drawing Wednesday, August 21st: (out of class sketch: 30 minute drawing that communicates an emotion without words; in-class sketch: upside down drawing)
