Draymond Crawford Partnerships If you recently took a drive along 30th street between E street and Mt View you may have notice a pleasant change in the scenery. I’m sure several departments would like to take credit for this transformation, but none can. The credit goes to a few dedicate ladies, led by Ms. Connie Wheeler. Ms. Wheeler was tired of seeing the tall weeds and untrimmed trees and bushes that plague the walking path the skirts along the fence line bordering the 210 freeway. Ms. Wheeler had made contact with Cal Trans and several city departments trying to find out who was responsible for the upkeep of the stretch of walk way. After several buck passing answers, Connie took it upon herself to organize a group to volunteer each morning to pull weeds, sweep up dead leaves and generally give the walking path a new look. Connie did her recruiting at the local neighbor community group “Community Builders” and set off to accomplish her mission. The one element that was missing was a way to dispose of the bags and piles of leaves. Call it fate or whatever Ms. Wheeler saw me (Draymond Crawford) at one of the Community builders meetings and cornered me stating “I need your help” after explaining what she had been through, I suggested a plan of attack that would create a partnership with a group of concern citizens that were willing to roll up their sleeves and give a little of their time to make San Bernardino better. It’s these type of what many may call small gestures that can change our city for the better. I know of a group that takes care of the flowers at Littlefield Park and Mrs. Mary Morris grooms over the plants at Wildwood Park. It will take all of us to pitch in where we can to help make this change. The Government can’t do it alone and as citizens we should not expect it to do so. Involvement means transparency and transparency means knowledge, let’s be a city of knowledgeable citizens.
