Dread Reckless and Sister Fearless have done it again.... Tribute album for Tsvangirai Gaborone-based Zimbabwean protest musicians, Dred Rekless and Sister Fearless (Patience Takaona), are finalising working on their four-track album paying tribute to former Prime Minister, Morgan Tsvangirai. By Mkhululi Chimoio Titled ‘Gandanga rine liver (chivindi)’ (slang), the album mainly focuses on MDC’s internal squabbles and a resilient Tsvangirai conquering despite being betrayed by his lieutenants. “My latest album came as a result of squabbling within MDC. Even though we tried to unite our leaders I discovered that some of them are just up to destruction,” said Dread Reckless, whose real name is Hapson Handson Mabika. “I was inspired by Tsvangirai’s honest desire to see the party united again, though there were some self-anointed publicists who always distorted his statements. Tsvangirai never used the ‘asingandidi ngaaende’ rule principal as those who claim to be near him want his opponents to believe. That made my bond with him stronger. His love for his people will always inspire me to work with him to change the world for better. We are currently in the studio finalising this project,” he said. Featured songs include Shinga, which encourages Tsvangirai to soldier on despite all the trials he is facing, Tichakuratidza zvatiri - a warning to President Robert Mugabe not to continue despising citizens by clinging on to power, Handidi - which openly speak of terror always unleashed by Zanu (PF) on innocent citizens and title track Gandanga, which portrays Tsvangirai as a fearless leader whom the future of the country and party lies on his hands. Last year, Reckless Dred released a hit six-track album featuring hit song ‘Murozvi Mukuru’ - a tribute to the late prominent ‘Samanyemba’ hit maker Tongai Moyo. In the run-up to 2008 national elections, the duo spent five days in jail for allegedly singing songs that were ‘too sensitive and insulting’ Mugabe. They had been arrested while distributing copies of the compact discs of their eight-track revolutionary musical album entitled ‘Nhare Mbozha’ [‘Cellphone’] which featured controversial tracks ‘Saddam Waenda’ [‘Saddam Is Gone’] and ‘Hondo Yechimurenga’ [‘Liberation War’]. Other controversial albums they released include, Tiriparwendo naMorgan’ (we are travelling with Morgan), Run-over, Ndiri Musoja and Munamato.
