Dream Baby Dreams Adventure Walk: Hey Jane! Hey Mike! Thanks - TopicsExpress

Dream Baby Dreams Adventure Walk: Hey Jane! Hey Mike! Thanks to your decision to sponsor one of the spectacular, eligible-for-adoption dogs at Richmond Animal Care & Control, I was able to get a very special little lady out for an outing all about her! She goes by the name Dream Baby Dream, shes about three years-old and she looks like she recently gave birth, so at first, I wasnt sure if she was the right candidate for a walk just then. However, she had a look in her face that said she really needed a break, from her calm demeanor to her moistened eyes. Even if we didnt go out for a real hike, I felt like she just really needed to get out and be spoiled for a while! She looked too scared to join me at first, and wasnt having much movement in her step, but she must have been able to tell that I only meant well and she came along with me. Dream squinted as we got outside and got hit by the bright, bright sun this morning, and her ears perked up a little! Suddenly, she picked up her pace and her tail started wagging more and more. We walked around the outside of the facility so she could stretch her legs some and use the bathroom and I could tell that her mood was improving already. We kept walking for a while, since I wanted to gauge her energy and see if she was fit for a drive and a long walk. She looked fine to me, and she even ran around with me and chased me around in the cage! We walked over to the truck and she jumped in on her own, which was impressive! Dream diligently sat up in the back seat and liked to lean into the seats where the sun was warming them up. We arrived at Reedy Creek, and we got to walking immediately down the trail and Dream looked so happy! Her eyes were opened up and her ears were tuning in to all the foreign sights and smells she was taking in. Her tail kept wagging all the way down to the water, too! She sniffed the creek and was very curious of the foreign animal turds shed spot along the way. She was startled at one point by the train horn nearby, and made a quick u-turn, but I got down and petted and comforted her until it passed. It must have been the first time shes ever heard that! We arrived at the rocks, and like some of the other dogs Id brought down there, she had a few moments where it looked like she was experiencing some sort of euphoria with her eyes closed, nose up in the air, smelling how fresh it is with the river water noise passing us by and probably calming her down a bunch, all before letting out a big sigh and walking around to explore the area some more. I sat down with her on the edge of a rock with the water below my boots, and she slid her ribs right alongside me, getting in close so I could put my arm around her as we watched the water together. Shes incredibly sweet, and loves getting attention any way she can get it. Dream loves to get massaged on her back and along her sides, and of course, her neck and ears! We got lost in the moment and just hung out there, and her eyes were closing slowly while she sat against me. Dream looked truly relaxed and at peace. It must have felt so good to get away from the shelter for a little while, to not hear a single bark for longer than ten seconds and to have human fingers raking through her fur to help her take it easy. We eventually had to make the trek back, and she looked content just to be able to walk without walls beside her! Her eyes looked moist again, but she her mouth and ears looked a bit different-- like her cheeks were slightly wrinkled from smiling instead of looking at me with her regular resting face. Seeing these little bits of her personality come out made me wonder about her past, and how lonely she must have been before arriving at the shelter and into their staffs caring hands. Shell be taken care of, but she wont be able to relax and get a full nights sleep like she deserves to until shes officially a part of somebodys family! We drove back to the shelter, where we hung out in the parking lot for a few more minutes so Dream could rest while I petted her back. I could tell she wasnt quite ready to go back inside, but she didnt resist and we slowly made it back to her kennel. It was nice and cleaned for her return, but she was back among the barking and stress of the shelter. It should be noted that even with all of this noise, these dogs are resisting giving into the temptation of losing their minds in there whenever we give them some hope that they get out, and Dream Baby Dream is a great example of that! She is so patient, and when the right person comes along, they will feel like their life was saved when they experience the affection she is hoping to lay on them! She glared at me with sad eyes as we said goodbye, and I gave her a hard hug for as long as she would put up with it before leaving. Luckily, she seemed tired enough to just curl up and attempt some sleep! Mike, Jane, I cant thank you enough for considering a sponsorship, because it made Dream Baby Dreams day, and I really do believe its days like these that give these dogs some hope that it wont always be what theyre experiencing right now. She and the others know theyre in good, loving hands, but theyre not home yet. I hope that this brief chunk of our time together will give people an idea of what to expect with her if they consider bringing her into their lives, and that the pictures illustrate just how much theyd be smiling if they saw her laying on their floor, or woke up to her big face right next to theirs. Ill be checking in on her as I visit RACC as well as the others, because she deserves as many eyes on her as she can get until her forever home opens up to her. Thank you again, and dont forget that these sponsorships can lead to life-changing moments for so many involved! Dream Baby Dream is available with Richmond Animal Care and Control.
