Dream Snatchers~~~Hello all, something has being weighing heavy on me and I need to...type...to vent...to exhale...to share. Dream Snatchers are folks that suck the life out of you to the core. They are the ones that invade your space and deplete your soul of all passion, love and dreams that you may have. I found myself in line at a store with a Dream Snatcher. He apparently came to the restaurant about a two weeks ago. He loved the food and felt that he got his monies worth. He then followed that up by saying that I should move to another area, perhaps downtown Flint, Grand Blanc, Fenton...just anywhere except for where we are currently located. I asked, Why? He didnt have a viable answer, but he did have more negative things to say about the area. I asked, Have you ever seen any violence around the restaurant? His reply was no. I asked, When you came to the restaurant did you hear any profanity? His answer again was no. I asked, Is the exterior and interior clean, inviting and different (as in there are no other local spots with the concept.) and again, his response was positive. So why would I want to close this location down to open up elsewhere? He finally said that because its the north side of Flint, folks wont support my style of cooking nor the price of some of the entrees. See, for me, I came back to Flint because its home. Its where I cut my teeth. Its where I raised my family. I will NEVER denounce my hometown. I will never allow someone to dictate where I am to go, what I am to do or how I should do it. Folks leave Flint because of a better opportunity elsewhere and to provide a better life for themselves and their family. I stayed in Flint for the same reason. WHEN I decide to open a location in a different area, its because its the right time. He gave an example regarding the cost of one of my entrees as being expensive. It was a 13.00 entree which is the most expensive entree. My response, Everything is made from scratch, unlike some other restaurants. Our food cost is a little more expensive, but the taste is that much better. I can not apologize for wanting to give the BEST food possible. Its in my DNA. If I specialize in one thing, such as just fish or just ribs, the price would be different because I am buying a high volume of that item. But we do GREAT southern food....period! Is it always perfect? Not yet. If there has ever been a complaint, it is rectified immediately! Thats what we do. We provide great service, great food and a clean and great atmosphere. With the addition of the other side, that experience will simply be enhanced. I will never apologize for cooking the food as we do. It is what I am destined to do. I eat the food at 51 To Go and always say to myself that we do great food. I am proud of the product that is being produced, I am proud to be a product of Flint, I am proud to be at G 5034 Clio Road, even though I am in NDud area (inside Flint joke folks! lol) and I will continue to feel as I do. Folks, dont let Dream Snatchers take your passion away. Dont allow Dream Snatchers to dictate your life, dreams, love, passion away. You will know a DS (Dream Snatcher) when you see him/her. Theyll be the ones offering advice but wont have a pot to piss in or they will be a person that is so negative that you simply want to karate chop them in their esophagus! Purge them from your life and if they are not really in your life, purge them from your existence. Let them be the ones on the outside, regretting every ill word that they spate. Let them transition into the hater that they are destined to be, which will only fuel your desire to succeed. Follow your dreams and hold them near and dear. Shine...be the beacon that is too bright to be contained and too bright to allow someone to dim. Make it virtually impossible to allow a dream snatcher to enter your zone because your light is so bright that there is absolutely nothing that he/she can do to prevent you from shining. Surround yourself with folks that think as you, are passionate as you and have the drive that you have. With that being said...shine on...
