Dream from last night. At a party with many people, and Mel Brooks was there. and so was my dad, who died in April. My dad had dark hair and combed neatly like he used to back in about 1975. My dad dearly loved Mel - as do i and my son - and I was excited to introduce them. Mel, though, for some odd reason - had no shoes on, just socks. Or stockings as my dad called them. And i accidentally stepped on his feet. He just laughed. And finally the moment that mattered - in a big crowd, got my father next to Mel but I was so excited i couldnt say his name, and said, Dad - this is LOU! And they both seemed shy and shook hands, I think. Funny how the mind - or whoever writes these dreams - puts things together. I did meet Mel a few months ago when he got his hands & feet in the Chinese Theater forecourt. I even took Joshie out of school for this, as Mel is one of the only stars loved equally by father and son - and my father, too. And there is Mel in the flesh, which is surreal to see, of course, as surreal as the thought that my own dad is no longer here, in the flesh, anyway. And life continues.
