Dressed for the Inevitable Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all to stand. Stand therefore having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Ephesians 6:10-17 (NKJV) Would you wear flip flops and shorts in sub-freezing weather? Would a professional football player participate in a game without his protective gear? Would a boxer fight without his mouth guard? Do you think police men and women should wear bullet proof vests? Do you think as God’s people we too should be dressed for the inevitable? We are in a war out there it is spiritual warfare. The war we are in is with Satan he attacks us with many temptations that we sometimes may succumb to. We must be always ready for the sin and temptations of the world the sin and temptation Satan throws at us. God has provided us with all we need and we should use the tools daily. Paul describes it as armor because we are going into battle against the sin and temptation which is spiritual warfare with Satan. Paul tells is to gird ourselves with truth, the truth is God word. To gird means to hold up, to prepare for action and fasten. All we do is fastened with the word of God. We must of course know the word of God. He tells us to put on the breastplate of righteousness. Our breastplate protects our hearts which have been purified and made righteous by Jesus. Paul says we should shod our feet with the gospel of peace. We must be quick to travel and share the Good News of Jesus. While sharing the Good news and wearing our armor makes it tough for Satan to get at us with his manipulation, temptation and outright lies. We must also have our Shield of Faith ready at all times knowing that the word of God is the truth and can be depended upon. God will protect us, we must always have faith and that faith will protect us. Also wearing the helmet of salvation knowing we have been bought and paid for by Jesus’ sacrificial death and resurrection. The helmet represents the knowledge and wisdom of God’s word. And the sword we wield is God’s word through the Spirit. This is what the well dressed Christian is wearing. Spiritual warfare is inevitable so suit up. God Bless Ken Jones THS
