Dressed in a suitable length black dress, a laptop bag on my lap and my handbag under my arm, the auto i was in, stopped near Sion station to get directions. Im not a very attractive woman or even look like one that would seem to want to draw attention. As the auto driver was on the phone, a few drunk men approached on the pretext of helping and tried to get into the auto I was in. I pushed one man away and he said Kya? and i said EXCUSE ME! in the most African-American way i knew how to. Despite that, he still had the audacity to put his hand up my dress, try to pull away my laptop bag and get in once again, but wasnt quick enough. Luckily the auto guy had the presence of mind to drive off because I froze. Im not one of those women who venture into dark areas or wear whatever I want because HEY I SHOULD FEEL SAFE IN THIS CITY NO MATTER WHAT i dont instigate, nor do i have this weird sense of entitlement just because i am a woman. I stay away from unsafe areas and firmly believe that were still too regressed a nation for me to be an ass about it. So I behave myself and dress appropriately and dont venture too far because clearly some men cant behave themselves. But obviously, thats not going to stop them either. I am hopeful that the next generation will be smarter, secure and less lewd. Until then, i will keep looking over my shoulder.
