Drew finally got out of surgery at 5:30. He is very sore, but hes ok. It was a very long procedure with an outcome thats not horrible but its not great either. Worst case scenario is that the doctors would have gotten in there and his small intestines would have been stiff and immobile. That was not the case. They were soft and pliable which is a good sign, but they were not contracting like they should have been. His small intestines are still pretty inflamed from the GVHD. The hope is that with time (probably months), his small intestines will become less inflamed and heal on their own. On a positive note, his small intestines were not damaged beyond repair like I feared they were going to be. Unfortunately, I could not get the answer I wanted today but thats not to say it wont come in the future. Thank you to everyone for keeping Drew in their thoughts and prayers today.
