Driving down Hwy 96 last night, a dark shape suddenly appeared: a bear who crossed the road in front of me. Happily, thx. to following my new 30-35 mph nighttime speed protocol on that twisty dark road, had plenty of time to slow and avoid. Love living w/ bears in the neighborhood. But hoping for good rains and coldness to come so they migrate back to higher spots soon, away from car and truck dangers. [ One of the venerable older bears in this area was hit and killed on 96 a few years back. V. sad. I love the bear people; theyre totemic for me. Plus: totally channel them when grazing blackberries. ]
