Driving in Mexico is different. In most parts of the US right - TopicsExpress

Driving in Mexico is different. In most parts of the US right turn on red is allowed. In Mexico it is the same, except there also seems to be left turn on red or maybe go straight on red. In the almost three years that I have been here, I have learned that traffic laws are more suggestions than laws, and very slight suggestions at that. Speed limits dont seem to mean anything. Any where they really want you to slow down, they put topes. Topes are speed bumps, and they come in all shapes and sizes. Some are to let you know that you should slow down. These are low and just cause a thumping as you speed over them. Then that are the ones that tell you to really slow down. There are about four inches high and not steep on the front or back. Slowing to twenty will let you get over and on your way. Then there are the serious topes. These are about eight inches high and you WILL slow down as they will tear the underside of the car out if you dont. Out PT Cruiser would drag over all of the serious topes. The Ford Escape wont drag on any of them. A wonderful car. Depending on where you are, the serious topes will also have an Army machine gun emplacement along side the road. Smile and wave at the soldiers and they smile and wave back. All the while covering the road with the 30 calibre machine guns. Traffic enforcement varies from almost nonexistant to dont you dare do anything wrong. Like I say, every day is a new adventure.
