Dry Manhattan: militaryaviationmuseum.org/Wings_Wheels_2014.html Parked in front of the Military Aviation Museums Goodyear-built FG-1D Corsair, a sleek 1954 Kaiser Manhattan shows us its good side. The Manhattan was the brainchild of Henry J. Kaiser, the same American industrialist behind the eponymous Kaiser Shipyards, which built the Liberty ship during World War Two. Some of the Kaiser hulls were also adapted as escort or jeep carriers, for service in both the Pacific and the Atlantic Theaters. In 1945, Henry Kaiser partnered with veteran automobile executive Joseph Frazer to found a new company. Cars would be manufactured at the surplus Ford Motor Company defense plant, Willow Run, Michigan. Kaiser Motors built cars under the Kaiser and Frazer names until 1955, when it abandoned the U.S. marketplace and moved production to Brazil and Argentina, respectively. You can explore further the machinations of Americas automotive industry at the upcoming Wings & Wheels car show.
