Dual citizenship has always been an area of interest for many. This permits one to hold a national identity of two or more countries where they may be accepted into that country as a citizen. Currently, with the state in Egypt, Canada has closed its embassy in Egypt amid the protests in Cairo. Minister Jason Kenney has stated that this is due to the fact that he worries for the security of the citizens still living in the country. So far, there have been 1,800 Canadian citizens who have registered with the consulate who could be evacuated back to Canada.
