Dual rural occupancy: What a pleasure it was to move this item on the agenda. The right for a rural landowner to have a second legitimate dwelling on their land is nearly here. I moved the item and successfully added one very small but very important amendment. ‘each dwelling will be situated within 100 metres of each other’ is now ‘should be’. Every councillor except the Green one supported this motion. Her argument, ‘keep the farmland, farmland’ and don’t impede it. Excellent I said because this change of heart towards farmers will be much appreciated when the biodiversity strategy is released and the E Zone and overlay reviews handed down. In the past the Greens councillor pushed for more and dare I say draconian restrictions on farmers. It is wonderful that she has now ‘seen the light’ and going on what she said last night will be in the farmers corner from now on. (whilst I’m hopeful I probably shouldn’t be holding my breath)
