The 32-day DSS, by the Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), is part of the ‘Summer is Dubai’ campaign that will go on until September 7. A special attraction is prizes worth Dh5 million that will be given as a part of the three-month ‘Summer in Dubai’ promotion. Laila Mohammad Suhail, CEO of Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment (DFRE), said DSS and the ‘Summer is Dubai’ campaign are important parts of the tourism strategy to attract 20 million visitors by 2020. Last year more than four million people visited the DSS, spending nearly Dh12.3 billion and the organisers are expecting the number to rise by another five to 10 per cent this time. With over 6,000 retail outlets offering promotions, entertainment by artists from various countries and promotions by the hospitality industry, visitors have a lot to look forward to. Hit the malls “Visitors to Dubai Festival City Mall are sure to be delighted with valuable offers at the centre’s 400 stores and cuisine options throughout the mall’s 75 restaurants,” said Murray Bell, Managing Director, Retail and Leisure at Al Futtaim Group Real Estate. Outlets in Mercato mall and Town Centre Jumeirah will offer discounts of up to 75 per cent, and shoppers could win a brand new Infiniti JX35, a luxury five-day cruise around the Seychelles or weekly jewellery vouchers worth Dh10,000. Adding to the shopping bonanza are educational and entertainment activities at Modhesh World, which features the festival mascot. This huge entertainment space at the World Trade Centre is divided into various themed zones. Toddlers, kids and teenagers will all find plenty to do and discover here - from playgrounds and soft toy areas to the latest video games and a 4D cinema. Modhesh World is a child’s dream come true. In addition, there will be signature cartoon shows such as Bananas in Pyjamas, City of Friends, Ben10, The Smurfs Show, Strawberry Shortcake, Dora the Explorer and Hello Kitty across various malls. Roaming artists The fun starts for visitors right at the airport, where roaming performers provide a warm welcome with their music and dance routines. Roaming and stage performers will present acrobatics, music, dance, mime, choreography across malls, event venues. The Vocal People, The Floating Chandeliers, The Comic Book Show, The Sweet Treat Show, Cartoon Pantomime are a few of the stage shows that will be presented this summer.
