Dublin and St Vincents star Ger Brennan has urged the GAA to shorten the playing season. Brennan and his Vincents team-mates will lock horns with Rhode in the Leinster club football final on December 14th and the two-times All-Ireland SFC winners says his recent injury problems can be attributed to chronic fatigue: I think the GAA really has to look at the fixture list in terms of having everything in one calendar year, the inspirational centre back says in The Irish Independent. The GAA will probably argue in terms of trying to promote the games throughout the 12 months because theres a lot of competition between GAA and soccer and rugby and thats fine, but they need to start taking players bodies into account as well. Any injury Ive ever had has not been through collisions really. Ive had a few cuts here and there but of the injuries Ive had, its more from chronic fatigue in terms of high intensity training all year round without getting a break. Myself and Diarmuid [Connolly], I dont know how long were going now, 36 months or something like that. Diarmuid was the one who was playing, while I was doing rehab in the background, but youre still working hard trying to get back to playing. It certainly can take its toll.
