Duchenne parents: Remember to never let ANYONE talk down to your children, regardless of how genuine it seems. When it comes to this disease, physical dignity is hard to come by. It’s all the more important to fight for their emotional/mental dignity with everything you’ve got, so they will do the same for themselves in the future. If someone asks about your child (in front of him), tell them to ask the boy instead. Don’t let people condescend him and treat him like a halfwit. He has a mind of his own and is capable of decision. Being treated equally with mutual respect is one of the best lessons learned in life. Feet that step on toes are nothing compared to confident rubber wheels!
