Dude at the hotel lobby bar is a sixth generation Floridian, commercial fisherman. In town for a fisheries regulation thing. Tells me the feds are way off base, overregulating, basing limits on worst case scenarios. I say, theyre being conservative? He doesnt like that use of the word conservative. He says commercial fishermen know a lot more about how many fish are out there. I say, How? He says, well, when you stop being able to catch something, you stop, you fish for something else, and then, in a few years, theyre back. They come back really fast. I say, What about the bigger fish, that predate on the fish youre catching? Do THEY come back? Then he looks at me real funny. You seem to know a lot about this. My explanation that Im an early childhood educator only seemed to confuse him more.
