Due to hectic schedule following this concert, I had missed out sharing my thoughts on this concert by the highly talented, Non Resident Bangalorean and disciple of Sangita Kalanidhi Padmabhushana Dr. R K Srikantans (and now Vid. T M Krishnans) disciple Vid. G Ravi Kiran at our Kendra last month. Accompanied by our Vid. Srinidhi Mathur- the new star in the field of percussion Vid. NC Bharadwaj (disciple of Vid. Umayalapuram K Sivaraman Sir) and the only Female Ghatam artist of very high repute Vid. Sukkanya Ramgopal, Ravi gave a memorabe concert during his short stay at Bangalore. Beginning with a Varna in Kambhoji which set him up nicely, he invoked Lord Ganesha with Siddhi Vinayakam in Shanmugapriya interlacing it with Neraval “Prasidha yaksha kinnaradi” and Swaras at “Prasidha gana nayakam. After this interesting piece, he moved on to present Evarani in Devamritavarshini to gather momentum. Acceding to my request to present as many Saint Purandara Dasas kritis ( in consistence with the location and platform), he took up Ille vaikunta in Varali set to Khanda chapu . Tuneful Raagaalaapane, preceded with “kaveri viraja seyam” shloka and Neraval at “Abhinava Purandara…, he stole the heart of many at the concert. Then came a soothing Shyama Shastrys kriti in slow speed Marivere in Ananda Bhairavi set to Misra chapu and his favorite St. Muttuswamy Dikshitars kriti in Malava Panchama and Rupaka taala Vasudevam upasmahe . Another popular kriti Himagiri thanaye in Shudha dhanyasi and Adi taala ( a Muthiah Bhagavathars gem) was pleasing. It was then that he presented the main item of the concert. Choosing the popular Kambhoji, he presented a beautiful Alapane brilliantly supported by Srinidhi. The highly tuneful, soukhya -filled O Rangasayee in Adi (of St. Thyagaraja) was highly evocative and memorable with Neraval and swara prastara. Then came the turn of Vid. Bharadhwaj and Vid. Ghatam Sukkanya Ramgopal to come up with an excellent, much-appreciated and cheered Tani Avartane. The concert continued with rendering of two more Purandara Dasa Kritis Mandamatiyu naanu in - Valachi and Khanda chapu and Baride hoyithu om Salagabhairavi and Adi tala. Vid. Ravi Kiran concluded his concert by reciting Ganesha Pancharathna Mudakaratha modhakam in Ragamalika and Pavamana (Saurashtra) . Well appreciated concert.
