Due to my recent retirement, I have more time for reflection. Today my thoughts focused on W.A. Carr, my high school football coach and chemistry and physics teacher. During his time as head coach, Easley was placed on the football map with a state championship and runner-up (x2) plus the infamous Easley football jamboree. His presence on the field impacted not only the players but also the school and the entire community. Additionally, he was the best teacher I had in high school. I will never forget some of the situations that came up in his classroom... especially chemistry. But I must admit that if a teacher in 2014 used Coach Carrs strategies in the classroom, the teacher would get in hot water immediately. This would be sad commentary on our society now as opposed to then.
