Due to recent changes in Alabama state law, Union Dues are no longer payroll deductible. There are 2 labor unions and one association that serve the district. AEA(NEA,) AFT, and then there is an association called the Christian Educators Association. In Proff Development today, AFT gave their presentation, then CEA gave theirs. I have been a member of AEA/NEA for 6 years, dont hate me, but I have been vacillating about paying my dues directly. Today, the AEA representative Jesse McDaniel followed the Christian Educators Association to the podium and he immediately began demeaning and belittling the lady from CEA and making snide remarks about the faith-based foundation of the CEA. He began by sarcastically saying, Amen... Amen... as he approached the podium. Then he said, I feel like Im in a pastor in a pulpit now... Then he said, Well, Im not here to talk to you about your spiritual or religious needs or anything.... and so on. I decided in that moment that AEA will not get another dime of my money. I will be signing up with CEA in order to get the 2 million dollars of liability insurance. If I am ever in the position of needing union representation, I will lose my job before I give another dime to a man who would stand on the stage in front of me and demean a fellow Christian sister and the faith we hold dear. Every Christian bus driver working for the district should do the same. When he stood on stage and belittled our sister for doing what God has called her to do, he belittled every one of us, and worse yet, he belittled our Lord. You can go to the link below and sign up. You get everything with CEA that you get with AEA except the ungodly arrogance and political activism for causes that conflict with your beliefs. The lady who represents the CEA in this area is also a volunteer and not some cocky young kid with a degree in something like PoliSci. I assume the guy has some degree in something like that, but who knows. The only thing Im sure of is his disrespectful attitude toward the faith of those he has been hired to represent. ceai.org
