Due to the buzz surrounding it in my usual circles, and partly for shits and giggles, I decided to check out the premiere episode of Sailor Moon Crystal; Another animated adaption of Japans best-known magical heroine manga - following on from the 1992 anime series that Im sure everyone knows of in one form or another - which has been touted as an attempt to be much more faithful than before to the source material. How faithful it can be in the span of 26 episodes, only time will tell. Crystal sees the return of Kotono Mitsuishi, the actress behind the voice of Sailor Moon in the original anime series. Notably, shes the only one of the Sailor Scout actresses to reprise her previous role, as the remainder of the Scouts have been recast. Here are the opening theme song - Moon Pride - and closing theme song - Moon Rainbow - both performed by all-girl pop band Moimoiro Clover Z. For my money, Im not exactly the most rabid of Sailor Moon fans. Im aware of the show and did catch a few episodes when I was younger, but never really kept up with it. The recent news that the entire original anime is going to be re-released on DVD and Blu-Ray later this year, however, has caught my attention. As for this reboot, the most I can say right now is that the animation looks all sorts of amazing.
