Dunedin Parks & Recreation Department Receives Two State-wide Awards The City of Dunedin’s Parks & Recreation Department staff and volunteers received two awards from the Florida Recreation and Park Association (FRPA) at the Annual Conference on August 29, 2013 in Orlando. FRPA is a statewide non-profit organization representing local government parks and recreation interests in the State of Florida. Dunedin received recognition for both the “Media Excellence” and “Individual Voluntary Service” award categories. The Individual Voluntary Service award was presented to Dr. Louis Alan Zagar. Jorie Peterson, Dunedin Community Center Program Coordinator, nominated Dr. Zagar for this honor. Dr. Zagar volunteers endless hours with the Parks & Recreation Department overseeing the Dunedin Concert Band program. The band of volunteer musicians puts together concerts throughout the year, each with a special theme. With Dr. Zagar’s vision, the productions have become extremely popular with the community, and capacity crowds have led to expanded performance dates. The “Dunedin Magazine” showcases the vast array of recreational opportunities throughout the City and won the Media Excellence Award in the Print Catalogue category. Nichole Allen, Special Projects Coordinator, produces the Magazine. The look was streamlined with cleaner lines, inspirational messages, and even effective colors. Also, care was taken to incorporate visually appealing pictures and graphics that would emotionally engage the readers. The Dunedin Magazine is published three times per year (every four months) along with a separate Summer Camp Guide. This ensures the information is current and allows the department to emphasize new programs. The Dunedin Magazine is available at every recreation center, the Dunedin Library, all government offices, at local partners such as golf courses and the Chamber of Commerce, and is posted on the City’s website, DunedinGov. Nichole Allen and Dr. Zagar will both be recognized for their contributions and efforts at the Dunedin City Commission meeting held on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at 6:30 pm, located at City Hall, 542 Main Street.
