During discussion at last nights County Commission meeting, Don - TopicsExpress

During discussion at last nights County Commission meeting, Don Stansberry III brought up an interesting fact: Last year, when a group of Japanese businessmen were conducting business in Huntsville, they needed to book 15 rooms for two weeks. However, Stansberry said, They flat-out told us they wouldnt stay in a community where they couldnt get a drink with their supper. So they went to Knoxville. Every night. Had the businessmen booked their rooms locally, that single event would have generated $18,000 in revenue for Grand Vista Motel and more than $1,000 for Scott County in hotel-motel tax revenue (and, although Stansberry didnt say it, presumably more money in restaurant receipts). The most recent effort to approve a liquor-by-the-drink referendum in the Town of Huntsville failed on the November ballot. Whether one is for or against liquor, just an interesting little factoid that makes you say, huh. (Well, I said huh. I have a suspicion some of yall are gonna say a lot more than that, either for or against liquor. :D ) Edit: I was so interested in stirring the pot that I forgot all about including my shameless plug. Read about all the action at last nights County Commission meeting on ihoneida now and in next weeks Independent Herald. :)
