During my 27 years as a Gettysburg Battlefield Guide these are the biggest Gettysburg myths I encountered; many of which I have seen repeated on this discussion group: 1) Meade did not pursue aggressively enough after the battle. 2) Stuart was supposed to attack Meades rear to support Longstreets Assault on Jul 3. 3) Ewell should have kept going on Jul 1. 4) Heth screwed up and brought on the battle. 5) Longstreet wanted to fight a defensive battle at Gettysburg 6) The ANV would have won if Jackson were there 7) Chamberlain was THE savior of Little Round Top 8) The shoe story 8) Lee had a heart attack just before the battle 9) Buford conducted modern Defense in Depth to save Cemetery Hill. 10) Michael Shaaras Gettysburg is what actually happened.
