During my freshman and sophomore years at Auburn, I met two guys who were high school buddies with each other in West Palm Beach- Chris Keathley and Christopher Swartout. You think you watch a lot of movies, and talk about them all the time? Well, you werent hanging with me and Swartout and Keathley in 1982. I just found this note that Keathley sent me in the summer of 1981, after our first year at school. These are movies that still nourish me, and I was about to watch many of them for the first time- I was only 19! Swartout is now a long-time assistant director in TV and movies; hes currently working on Tina Feys new show. Keathley is a film professor at Middlebury College in Vermont. And Ive written screenplays for movie studios and have covered movies extensively for CNN and TCM, among others. Let me tell you- at this point, Swartout, Keathley, and I cared far more about movies than any of our professors did. We educated OURSELVES, and it worked.
