During my imprisonment, it was very difficult to obtain qualifications for an education. In fact, a law had been changed to make it difficult for federal prisoners that did not have the financial resources to obtain a college education. But I wasn’t deterred! On my own, I studied the criminal justice system indepthly for 20 years. It was my persistence to self-educate, while in the confines of the criminal justice system that enabled me to obtain, with honors, an associate’s degree in Paralegal Studies, a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration, and the pursuit of a master’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration. I often think, what if the criminal justice rehabilitative model was premised on an educational substructure!
