During my recent birding trip to the Eastern Himalayas., I spotted this beautiful bird only a few times among the mixed hunting flocks of birds that moved fast through the dense vegetation. I coudnt get a single decent shot as the bird preferred to forage in the dark and shady parts of the trees. It also seemed to be shyer than its other two cousins. When I lost all hopes, finally on the last day I got its shots as it came out in the open. I was awestruck to see the patterns on its wings and tails . Its even more surprising that I looked for this bird in the forests, but little did I know that I would get it on a hill slope just a stones throw away from my hotel in the heart of Lava town. Red-tailed Minla (Minla ignotincta)- male Lava (7000feet). West Bengal. 25th May-2014 Canon 60D Please view full screen.
