During my student days at Dana, I was introduced to the music of pianist Don Shirley and The Don Shirley Trio . . . his cello player, Juri Taht was a Dana Alumnus . . . so Juri convinced Don Shirley to do a concert at the college. (And a very rare performance during that part of his life.) That evening, in the colleges new performing arts center, the Trio played (among other selections) Adieu Madraz. . . . a lyrical little lullaby. Recently I discovered the french words to this little song. Here is a translation: Farewell headscarf, farewell scarf, Farewell gold beaded collar, farewell collar. My darling is leaving, Alas, alas, its forever. My darling is leaving, Alas, alas, its forever. The nice ship in the harbor, Took my darling away My darling whos going away, Alas, alas, its forever. My darling whos going away, Alas, alas, its forever. Alas, alas, Miss, Its already a little too late. The ship is at the buoy. Its about to cast off. The ship is at the buoy. Its about to cast off. Farewell headscarf, farewell scarf, Farewell gold beaded collar, farewell collar. My darling is leaving, Alas, alas, its forever. My darling is leaving, Alas, alas, its forever. https://youtube/watch?v=QAL2SC7HIVE
