During spring and fall the seasonal bird activities present - TopicsExpress

During spring and fall the seasonal bird activities present considerable risk to the aviation. To mitigate the risks here are some tips that could be useful. - keep the landing lights on when flying low or in area of high bird activity. This will help the birds to see you. - When approaching birds, never try to duck under them, because that is exactly what the birds will do when they try to avoid collision. - Look out, especially when VMC at low altitude. Dont be the IFR pilot in VMC. - Dont get complacent on looking out for birds even at high altitudes. - Dont stall the airplane (especially on take off or landing) or exceed structural limits of airplane just because you see birds. In some situations abrupt control of airplane can be much more dangerous than a bird strike. - Try to avoid flying to locations of high bird activity. If you have to, fly at higher altitudes, use extra caution. - Some birds fly at night, at high altitudes and even IMC. Not all bird strikes can be avoided or anticipated, therefore, think over your actions in case of such event. What would your actions be, what are the dangers presented to your airplane and your specific flight. Be prepared and fly safe! photo Aivars Lejietis Baltic Bees jet team
