During the battle for Van, the flank of the invading Arab forces was met with an Armenian reconnaissance team led by Tatul, aka the sword of death; the son of Caliph Umar wanted to make a name for himself and challenged Tatul; it was a big mistake; as the mortally wounded Arab was taken to his father’s tent, Caliph Umar screamed, who did this to my boy? Afraid that his father was going to punish the generals, the last words of his son were “I wasn’t disgraced by a cowards hand father it was the sword of death”…Eventually Armenia was conquered and Tatul died in battle, surrounded by hundreds of dead Arabs he personally killed…
