During the colonial period in this country, we tolerated enslaving - TopicsExpress

During the colonial period in this country, we tolerated enslaving people as property. Whether it was the slave trade, or indentured servitude, or whatever name we wanted to call it, we debased other human beings because they were different, or had different economic means. What was tolerated on a smaller scale eventually was encouraged on a much more massive scale. We fed the beast of oppression rather than the beast of tolerance. The same is true today. Now the pendulum is swinging to the other end, as we have people telling us that property, such as businesses and corporations, are the equivalent of people. Once again, we are blurring the lines and giving creedence to the thought that while people can not be viewed as property, property CAN be viewed as a person, and individual, with thoughts, and dreams, and free speech. We tolerate the idea that the rights of the individual are also the rights of a collective, in spite of the historical knowledge that good and evil have never been more extreme than when they have been done collectively. Yes, a corporation of people can do great good, but they can also do great evil. This must be understood. No person, not even a child, should be viewed as property. No property should be viewed as a person. This is not a question of semantics. It is a question of morality. To confuse this line is to confuse the very foundations of this nation, and set it on a course of corporate power in the hands of a few at the expense of the many.
