During the debate on the budget for Rural Development Ministry yesterday, I raised the issue of Orang Asli being forced to be converted to Islam by the Orang Asli agency officers in order to receive aid from the Federal Government. One of these cases in Pahang was reported in the Al Jazeera TV in a report named Malaysia Indigenous Conversion. Today when the Deputy Minister of Rural Development, Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi (Kapit) replied to our speeches, I intervened in his speech and pursued this matter. The UMNO MP for Jerantut was very unhappy with my speech and said there are many Orang Asli in his constituency and there was no such issue. I told him I raised this issue based on the Al Jazeera news clip that was sent to me via Whatsapps. I said I can always forward the news clip to them. :-) During the lunch break, I showed the news clip to the Deputy Minister. He then called in the Orang Asli agency (JAKOA) officers to watch the news clip, and forward the news clip concerned to them. They seem surprised by the report. I hope the deputy minister can instruct the JAKOA officers to carry out their duty impartially and professionally.
