During the economic day of the ambassadorsconference the ambassadors visited the port of Rotterdam. Chairman of the VNO/NCW, Hans de Boer, thanked the ambassadors for their support to the Dutch SMEs in their activities abroad. Former Commissioner of the EU, Mrs Neelie Smit Kroes, who was recently appointed as Special Envoy for Start-ups, emphasized the enormous potential of start-ups for creating jobs and reducing youth unemployment. Topeconomist of ING, Marieke Blom, gave a clear and optimistic analyses of the Dutch economy. The ambassadors visited several Dutch companies, among which DSM. Director Atzo Nikolai explained the strategy behind the development of the second generation biofuel and the bioprocess pilot facility. Finally the ambassadors participated at a speed date session with SMEs. In two hours every ambassador met with eight different SMEs in order to discuss business opportunities in their country.
