During the interview with Rahul Gandhi by Arnob Goswami and also - TopicsExpress

During the interview with Rahul Gandhi by Arnob Goswami and also the debate that followed the role of the media stood exposed to a great extent. During the debate that followed the interview, one pro congress panelist rightly opined that there were no concrete actions by the respective Governments during 1984 and 2002 riots in stopping or containing the riots.Another pro congress panelist vociferously opposed comparing both the riots which I initially considered as nonsense.Later I scratched my head as to in which the context the observations were made and it is clear that he is right.while everyone in the political and media circle conveniently ignored.During the anti sikh riots, I remember that the sikhs in Tamilnadu especially in Coimbatore were targetted and attacked .No one cares about the attackers till date and I remember the Government gave some compensation (not justice).Similar attacks on sikhs could have happened in other parts of the country also.when the same happens in remote parts of Tamilnadu. So it is clear that the 1984 riots happened in a number of places in various states unlike Gujarat 2002 and other riots. That could have made the panelist to make such observation.Hence he is right that there is a difference between national level riots and state level riots. If the TV channels rewind their news coverage and debates since 2002 riots in Gujarat., the mention about 1984 riots would have hardly found a place. As one who watches the TV news channels for a number of years, I realised that the mention about 1984 riots started only when the present Gujarat CM won his third term and too after realising that he will be the potential PM candidate of the BJP. Interestingly while everyone cries over the violence that followed after the assassination of Smt.Indira Gandhi, the very same people totally ignored the violences that swept Tamilnadu after Rajiv killing for three days.wherein the mobs at various places attacked members of a particular political party and their properties .There was disruption in public transport also fearing mob violence..Interestingly the parties that carried out the attack and the victim party have a strong alliance now, though temporarily suspended..In fact, a Congress Member from Tamilnadu who switched over to NDA and became a Minister justified the violences as emotional outbursts. No accountability was fixed on the then Governments.Every secularist in the political field and media ignored the events to suit their convenience. There is a difference between those who subjected themselves to scrtutiny by judiciary, agencies and various commissions unlike others who refused to face JPC.or NCW.which has to be kept in mind .before deciding to vote.
