During the last week we have been contacted by three authors who have had a very bad experience with so called self publishing companies on the Internet. Now, not all self publishing companies are bad, there are quite a few really good ones that do care about the author. But there are some really bad ones that are out to rip authors off. How to avoid the bad ones? (1). Make sure they give you all your High resolution files of your book, including cover and interior design for free. (2). Make sure you can get your book printed anywhere and not just with that company. (3). Make sure your name appears in the book as the 100% copyright owner. (4). Avoid companies that tell you that you get books at 10% 20% 50% off retail when ordering extra books? This is a rip off and you will be paying a premium for your books. (5). Double check the royalty payments they say you will receive. Some of these companies inflate the retail price of the book to a ridiculous price, so they can tell you your royalties are fantastic. A novel sells normally in shops for $17.95 to $24.95 and children’s books for $12.95 to $16.95. If your book is being sold for more than the shops, then it will not sell. Who is going to pay $10 extra for a book, when they can get a similar one cheaper?
