During the summer of 1973 I was a lifeguard at the Aladdin Inn in Daytona Beach Florida. A high school baseball team from Redbank HS out of Chattanooga Tn was staying there and all the players were in the pool splashing around. Because of all the ruckus no one noticed that the little sister of a player had fallen in and by the she was lifted from the pool she was blue without a detectable pulse. I turned her upside down and drained the water from her lungs and started CPR. About a minute or so from the time I started a doctor that was staying at the Inn came over and took over chest compressions while I did the breathing. 13 minutes later she took her first breath, she was transported to the hospital and stayed there about 10 days. When she was released there was no signs of brain damage, just a sweet little girl who had no memory of the events and still loved to play in the pool. She was about 5 at the time they took a photo of her sitting on my lap but they never sent it to me. I have often wondered how she is doing this many years later?
