During the week of June 22nd, two of our Unami Lodge advisers Jeffrey Aster and Larry Neibauer, took the opportunity to travel to the Philmont Training center in New Mexico to partake in the annual OA Advisers Training Seminar. There were representatives from 40 different lodges plus the Far East Council. We discussed variety of subjects: improving membership retention, lodge and chapter communication techniques, tips on achieving Journey to Excellence lodge status and other burning issues to all lodges. We were honored and blessed to have Ray Capp (National OA Chairman), Clyde Mayer (OA National Director), Scott Best (Witauchsoman Lodge Adviser) and Steve Silbiger (Western Region NLATS Coordinator) teaching us new things and giving us ideas in how to make Unami Lodge even better. With 47 people in the room as passionate about the OA as we are there was no shortage of new and very interesting ideas to try going forward. I am happy to say both Jeff and Larry completed the class with flying colors and also gained a lot of enlightenment from our brother and sisters around the country. This was the first time in a very long time that Unami has participated in this kind of training but it was well worth the trip.
