During this time of the lower interlude of the spiritual year, when the sun is in the signs of Libra, Scorpio and Sagittarius, the new moon period each month takes on added importance because it is also a lower interlude period. So we are working with a type of energy that could be qualified as a double lower interlude influence. It can be a difficult energy to work with as it is both figuratively and in fact a time of the waning of the light, a time of darkness and of depth. But the receding light reveals the beauty of the night sky and spiritually speaking we know that as the sun of the personality sets another subjective inner reality begins to unveil itself, teaching us many things. The whole history of the planet we are told can be revealed through a study of the sky and as we, as spiritual seekers, take our first steps into the inner Hal of Wisdom, the depth and breadth of the Ageless Wisdom begins likewise to reveal itself to us. These dark periods in the outer world are characterized by a disintegrating energy and by the color gold, the color of the fourth ray and the illumination of consciousness. It is a time for creative expression that results from the established alignment within consciousness. It is the time when we are encouraged to concretize that which had been gestating in consciousness since the higher interlude period. The focus now is on the horizontal axis of the cross—the axis of service, when we are charged with finding the best vehicle for the housing of the inflowing energies—to create those forms that will serve the greatest good of the greatest number. It’s said that in the coming esoteric schools students will be encouraged to write during the “dark period” of the spiritual year, following the cycles of nature wherein autumn is the time for harvesting that which was sown in the higher interlude period. It’s said that to be creative we must be willing to bear the pain of expression. It is easy to make mistakes as the energies concretize onto the physical-etheric planes. So let us work carefully with the energies of this Sagittarian new moon to bring in the particular form of light relayed by Sagittarius, “a beam of directed, focussed Light. In this the point of light becomes the beam, revealing a greater light ahead and illumining the way to the centre of the light. (EA, p. 330)
