During this whole storm event weve been listening to the scanner. I cant believe the number of calls that the fire departments had! I was a Hamburg fire fighter for almost 30 years, and I know the sacrifice that these men and women make while serving the community. Many went days without sleep. Many will be returning to their homes soon, to start their own clean up. If you see FD personnel around town, stop them and thank them for their efforts. Pay for their lunch or coffee. They save lives EVERY day! They do this for FREE! A special thank you to the Hamburg Chiefs who go to every call. You guys are fantastic leaders, that are often taken for granted. Im so proud of the Hamburg Fire Department that I almost want to come out of retirement........almost:) And thank you to all the mutual aid companies that came in from across the state to help out.
