Durojaiye Akeem Olalekan wrote thus: INJUSTICE ANYWHERE IS A THREAT TO JUSTICE EVERYWHERE.... As an astute alumnus of Lagos State University and a product of Lagos State University Students Union (LASUSU) school of activism, Im filled with mixed feelings as I respond to recent happenings in my alma mater. The enthusiasm of seeing the oppressed (Lasuites) not only being conscious of their inalienable right but also fighting for it and watching the pathetic vandalism done to our properties (yes its ours). But amidst all the uproars on the re-opening of registration portal, one discernible fact is that the remote cause of the pandemonium lies in the obnoxious, ridiculous and anti-masses hike in school fees. It will be unthoughtful of us to assume that the fee has come to stay. Therefore, i want to encourage us at this juncture, that we all need to be bold, dogged and fearless in order to revisit this cankerworm policy bedeviling our institution bearing in mind that the most potent weapon of the oppressor is the mind of the oppressed. So henceforth, LASUSU needs everybodys support to reverse this outrageous fee regime that has denied thousands access to university education. With utmost sincerity, I have two words of wisdom for the University management led by Prof. John Dapo Obafunwa, first, they need to learn fr om history; the history of past authoritarian leaders in LASU and how they all left. Secondly, to know that any kingdom built on injustice cannot last. To Lagos state government, I say well done with your use of repressive state apparatus to subjugate peace-loving Lasuites. Your days are numbered any father that says his child wont sleep should also be ready to stay vigilant at night. My prayer: Please!!! Government should provide succour not sorrow.. Lastly to my dear LASUSU, its your generational responsibility; whether to fulfil or betray it. But one conviction I hold so strongly is that revolution is the festival of the oppressed and intimidation is unavoidable but it cannot last. To all past comrades, its very disheartening that some of our people who rose through the tutelage of our great Union to LAHA could be acting in the interest of the state government as against the interest of millions of Lagosians, and show serious disdain to their alma maters just struggle . Hence, we all need to rebuke/disown such dishonourable honourables. Lets support not disturb. In conclusion, we must bear in mind that no other offence has ever been visited with such severe penalties as seeking to help the oppressed. We need also to properly coordinate ourselves to avoid hijacks and destructions as Vigilantibus non dormientibus aequitas subvenit. Long live my alma mater Long live my LASUSU Long live NAPSS-LASU From: Durojaiye Akeem Olalekan. (Ak z ok.) LASUSU President 11/12
