Dusted off some of my great grandfathers school books today. You can see how he practiced signing his name. He would have been 11 years old in 1851. Ten years later he and his younger brother would be fighting for Mr. Lincoln in the famous Minnesota regiment. George was wounded at Antietam Creek. His brother was at Gettysburg and came through unharmed. George died in the great flu epidemic of 1918. His brother died not long after.
