Duty Dedicated to Rifleman Liam Maughan - 3 Rifles I made my vow and took my oath And it remains as true today As it did when I was just a lad Joined up, and marched away To defend my Country, Queen and Flag To keep faith and face what came To fight and die if needs must be No-one but me to blame Volunteering was always going to be The way of my career To learn to fight and protect myself To look after those most dear A soldier, nothing more nor less Was all that I would be And should I give my life away It would not be easily I took that oath a life away Before I had seen war And if you asked me again today I’d take that pledge once more Think this of me is all I ask Remember me and smile I was a soldier true and proud And did it all with style!
