Dysart School District # 5 was located at the intersection of Nanum and Watson roads northeast of Ellensburg, Washington. Children from the Ferguson, Montgomery, Taylor, McEwen, Grim, Kinkade, Watson and Dysart families attended the school. It is interesting to note the two African-American students as very few lived in the Ellensburg area during the time the photograph was taken in the early 1900s. Many more lived in the Cle Elum and Roslyn coal mining areas. But notice that both black children are keeping their distance from the other kids . . . kinda makes you wonder, huh?
