Dyslexia is recognized by all school districts. It is not uncommon to hear My school district does not recognize dyslexia or We dont work with dyslexia at this school. The truth of the matter is that every school in this country recognizes dyslexia because it is written into the Individuals With Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), and its been there for over 35 years. You can read it here: Definition: Specific Learning Disability means a disorder in one or more of the basic psychological processes involved in understanding or in using language, spoken or written, that may manifest itself in the imperfect ability to listen, think, speak, read, write, spell, or do mathematical calculations, including conditions such as perceptual disabilities, brain injury, minimal brain dysfunction, dyslexia, and developmental aphasia.
