E-waste Management System In Nigeria E-waste simply means electronic waste. The e denotes electronics.Without much story here because most of you might not be that conversant with all these engineering jargons so to say,Ill be limiting myself to only the nitty-gritty of the aforementioned topic. In Nigeria, it baffles me always to see why we are only concern with today only without considering what legacy we are bequeathing to the coming generations especially as it concerns waste management practise in the country.I will be breaking these into three facet s respectively viz:causes, effects and solutions. (1)CAUSES:Well,e-waste naturally is not a concern to us but when it has accumulated to some unbearable quantities is a great concern and awaiting time bomb. The major cause is imported fairly used else electronics products into the country because indirectly,we allow near-end life products which its durability cannot be guarantee, another cause is the proliferation of fake and substandard electronics products and I believe Standards Organisation of Nigeria(SON) is trying their best in this regards. (2)EFFECTS:These are the following:frustration on the part of the users, making engineers to be idle, unemployed, redundant and inefficient. Others are contamination of the ground water bodies, eyesores, giving the country bad image, overdependent on oil, increase land toxicity, components that contain hard metal may affect the citizenry adverse if consume inadvertently, radioactive materials which can cause various forms of debilitating illnesses maybe transported into the country as fairly used materials(I doubt if Nigeria even have capabilities to detect this) etc (3)SOLUTIONS:We need to encourage, empower and provide enabling environment to our Engineer s so that they can innovative, invent and produce our products locally.Likewise,SON has to step up to its responsilities to ensure that only qualities and acceptable standard products recognised by Nigerian laws are allowed within the shore of the country.Lastly, electricity, needed infrastructure and transfer of necessary technical skills between individuals, regions and countries should be made available!!!!GOD BLESS NIGERIA....
