EARLIER DEADLINE APPROVED FOR 2015 SPECIAL ASSESSMENT PROJECTS. The City Commission approved a new bid opening deadline of June 1 for street improvement projects in new developments that are special assessed at its Oct. 7 meeting. A 2014 deadline of July 1 was established in February, after six projects planned later in 2013 failed to meet contractual deadlines. The delay in finishing street projects resulted in delayed housing starts. The earlier deadline is expected to result in on-time completions and lower bid prices. The June 1 deadline requires plans and specs to be approved at or before the May 5 Commission meeting. Developers willing to finance the cost themselves for street improvement projects will not be subject to the proposed deadline, but rather could enter into an agreement to complete the work in accordance with City specifications.
